Round One Spring Auditions

Round One

Below you will find the requirements for Round One Auditions for the NGYW.   Spring Auditions will begin on April 15th and all submissions must be received by midnight on May 15th.

What happens next

After May 15th all submissions will be judged and participants will be notified if they move forward with Round Two.

Round Two auditions

Participants moving on to Round Two will receive an invitation following the judging on May 15th.   Round Two requirements are below, and those auditions are in person at the end of August at East Jackson High School.

FOR WINDS→ Any wind players who want to audition on a secondary instrument must follow the same guidelines.

  • Step 1: All audition videos and Google Form recommendations will need to be submitted by midnight on May 15th.
    • Any four Major Scales, any tempo and rhythm (we are listening for Tone Quality and technique)
    • The Chromatic scale so that we can see your full range on your instrument.  Please note: Both the four major scales and chromatic scales can be played at any tempo.
    • Band Director Recommendation (Google Form)

FOR PERCUSSION → Percussionists must choose two instruments/groups to audition on: Timpani, Mallets, and Snare Drum.  Please note that we are looking for all-around percussionists who are willing to play all the percussion instruments.  These auditions will help us to find your strengths.

  • Step 1:  All audition videos and Google Form recommendations will need to be submitted by midnight on May 15th
    • SNARE DRUM:
      • Four rudiments of your choice (not looking for speed, but accuracy, stick height, and consistency)
      • Bounce/Buzz Roll for 16 counts, metronome Quarter note = 72
    • TIMPANI:
      • Tuning of timpani.   Show timpani with pedals down, then show tuning to the following notes…
      • Forte Piano Roll for 16 counts, metronome Quarter note = 72
      • Slow – Fast – Slow Single Roll for 16 counts, met 72
    • MALLETS:
      • Any four Major Scales, any tempo and rhythm (not looking for speed, but accuracy, mallet height, and technique)
      • Forte Piano Roll for 16 counts, met 72
      • Slow – Fast – Slow Single Roll for 16 counts, met 72
  • Band Director Recommendation (Google Form)


Round Two

  • Step 2: Music will be emailed out in mid-August, with the audition date TBD from 2:00pm - 6:00pm at East Jackson High School.
    • Audition Fee is $25.
    • This audition will consist of the student preparing two excerpts of music that they will receive two weeks (8/18) in advance.  There will be no sight reading.
  • Upon Acceptance, participating students must pay a membership fee to cover ASCAP, music, materials, stipends, etc. for all rehearsals and performances. This fee would be $450, including spring travel.

  • Rehearsals would be once a week beginning Monday, September 8th, 2025 (except for student holidays) 
    • Mondays, 7:00pm - 9:00pm at East Jackson High School.
    • Rehearsal attendance is required. 
    • NGYW will have substitute players.  If a musician is unable to participate in a particular concert for the season, a sub would take their place.

    • All Concerts are Free and open to the public.
    • All performing musicians will wear their school's concert attire.
    • All concerts will be in conjunction with the North Georgia Winds.
